The Japanese government has recently allocated wireless spectrum for the use of private 5G networks in Japan, commonly referred to as “Local 5G.” This move has generated significant interest among large companies domestically as they will soon have the option to design, deploy and manage their own 5G infrastructure with little to no involvement from mobile operators. Private wireless networks have not been widely deployed in Japan, however, there is significant interest from a variety of industries especially in the automotive, manufacturing and energy sectors.
Private 5G Networks Will Enable New Levels of Security, Quality-of-Service and Network Customization
The reason that private 5G networks are generating significant interest among enterprises is that they will allow companies to have unprecedented control over their networks. Enterprises are currently dependent on telcos in terms of security settings, QoS terms and levels of customization. In a private 5G network setting, enterprises will be able to take control of these features and have a highly customized wireless network which is needed for advanced Internet of Things deployments.
