Facial recognition technology is by no means a new solution in the IT market, as initial development of the service began in the 1960s and has been used mostly for security purposes for decades. The technology is, however, the focus of increasing attention by enterprises in recent years as increased accuracy and lower costs are enabling facial recognition technology to offer a wide variety of solutions for the enterprise beyond security services. As a result, enterprises are getting more aggressive in deploying facial recognition solutions.
Facial Recognition Technology is Becoming Increasingly Accurate & Widespread
Narita International Airport recently announced that it will implement a facial recognition solution in 2020 to allow air passengers to pass through immigration, security and boarding using the technology, removing the need for multiple passport checks. Solutions such as this are only possible as facial recognition technology is reaching the point where it is becoming more accurate than humans. While the technology is still not perfect, it is reaching the point where it is robust enough to sufficiently perform many enterprise tasks.
